Fodder Establishment

Demonstrater: Mr. Mohamad Zaihan

"Harvest and replanting". that's what we do to provide a continuous supply of ruminant feedstock! Here is the alternative sources of feed to substitute the heavy use of commercial concentrates.

Be proud! We have varieties of Napier grass (Taiwan Napier and Australian Napier) available in our Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture (FSA), UMS Sandakan. The figure above depicts the "Pak Chong" Napier.

Harvesting and preparing the planting cuttings for propagation of Pak Chong Napier.

Student measuring the plot for propagating the available varieties as well as establishing other new variety in FSA, the Red Napier.

This planting method used is by cuttings, where each piece should have at least three nodes. Plant them angled into the ground, so the nodes are buried in the soil and one is above the ground.

Napier grass can be planted using three different methods: by cuttings, slips or whole stems.
